Kranky release the third album from Kansas City-born, Belgium-based composer/musician Christina Vantzou. Nº3 sees Vantzou melding classical instrumentation with electronics, recording the album with a 15-piece ensemble of strings, horns, woodwind, and micro-choir as well as various vintage and modular synthesizers. Across the record she moves between ambient sound designs and more structured orchestral works (the ‘pillars’ of the album’s tracklisting) that adhere to a formal rigidity. It’s a solemn, ethereal record, but a powerful and emotional one too.
