Dark Water's attempts at creeping us out with half-assed frights and a pathetic story do little to alter that legacy. The story is based on a simple premise: Divorcee and daughter move into a creepy apartment building that is constantly dripping water from the cieling.

I've been delving into a lot of Japanese horror lately on shudder. Watched a bunch of good stuff lately: Noroi, Cure, Pulse, and a few others.

Just finished 'Dark Water' which I loved. It wasn't super terrifying or anything, just a really great story. I recommend it to Japanese horror fans who haven't seen it or just anyone who likes a good story.

The ending was really sad. The sacrifice of the mom (Yoshimi Matsubara) to save her daughter, Ikuko, and also to give some peace and rest to the girl that went missing and was murdered really got to me. Loved how they gave some closure in the final scene with a 15 or so y/o Ikuko going back to her apartment complex from when she was 5, barely remembering anything, the complex derelict and left to sit uninhabited. She enters her old room and sees her mom there, she's almost in a bit of a haze not really understanding if her mother dies, trying to stay with her. It was sweet and once again her mother has to be selfless as mothers often are and tell her it isn't possible.
Anyone else loved this film? Also if anyone has some other hidden Asian horror films that I may have not seen on shudder, netflix or Hulu, let me know. I'm exploring the genre. Just watched Shutter the other day, that was fantastic as well.
